Just Three Chinese People

From right: Ai weiwei, Luo Yong-hao, Zuoxiao Zuzhou

Today, I came across this interesting photo online. From their looks and appearance, it is really difficult for people to believe that they are nice men or famous people. However, we can’t judge them by appearance. They are three idols of Chinese netizens.

Ai Weiwei (the first one from the right)
Ai Weiwei is an internationally famous artist and Chinese political critic and activist, who has strong influence among Chinese. He often urged Chinese government to release true statistics of some public events. Due to his international publicity and his influence, he is the last person Chinese government is willing to deal with.

Luo Yong-hao (the middle one)
Luo Yong-hao is an English teacher and now he is operating his own school and a site. His struggling experience is encouraging. He became popular among Chinese college students mainly due to his hilarious talk-shows during class, which were recorded by students and then spread widely on internet.

Chinese netizens would call him Lao Luo rather than his full name. He is really a person with strong sense of humor that his each class and lecture is filled with peals of laughter.

Luo Yong-hao is hammering the refrigerators produced by Siemens

Recently, he hammered the refrigerators produced by Siemens because its refusal to admit the quality problems.

Zuoxiao Zuzou (the left one)
Zuoxiao Zuzou is a musician and temporary artist. His musical works are closely related with Chinese society issues.

All those three Chinese public figures share one feature: they don’t pretend to be men with high morals. They just display what they really are in front of people.

Summary of Me in 2011

Long time no see and long time no update my blog!

Hi, I am John Cho (It takes me a long time to name me in English). From now on, just call me John. 😀

Summary of Me in 2011

Christmas and 2012 are coming and I think that it is necessary to do a summary of this blog and me in 2011.

In the end of March, 2011, I got my current job and then I opened this English blog (really like to try all the different themes of wordpress). I am really a lazy guy and only have posted no more than 100 posts in 8 months. However, it is really a nice experience to blog on wordpress.com. I have learned so much from other bloggers and I have made many great foreign friends here in the community of wordpress.com.

Here, I want to extend my special thanks to Lorna, who pays much attention on my blog, and Renxren, who has helped me to correct my English.

One of objects of opening this blog is to practice my English. During the process of updating this blog, I find it difficult to determine what to write. At last, I decided to report what happened in China, which is a little frustrating when I find out that Washington Post and New York Times report China far better than me. However, I would insist on updating this blog.

The following is the last report of China from John Cho in 2011:

#1. Chinese netizens celebrate the death of Kim Jong-II
You may read from Chinese official media that N Korea and its leader Kim Jong-II is Chinese people’s great friend. Okay, it is just the statement of Chinese government. We don’t think so (at least me). We all know Kim Jong-II is a dictator, who makes N Korean people support him while they are suffering from starving.

2011 is really an important year for the development of democracy. From African countries to Arab world, to Russia, to some Asian countries, the wind of democracy spreads so fast and common people start to demand what they really want from the rulers. All the protesters, including people who took part in the Occupy Wall Street in America are all heroes of this year.

#2. Big surprise for the email spammers at the end of year
Recently, more than 10 millions of Chinese internet users’ registration information, including email addresses and passwords, have been published online. One main reason for this accident is that all these information are kept in an unencrypted way.

Many people joked that this is really a big Christmas gift for the email spammers. However, millions of Chinese netizens are busying changing their accounts password now, including me.

The coming Christmas
In fact, many Chinese people don’t know what Christmas celebrate for. However, promoted by supermarkets and ads, more and more Chinese now start to celebrate Christmas.

In order to decorate for the Christmas, workers in a commercial center hang Santa head on the roof. What would you react in the night if you suddenly look at this? Yes, it is really scaring. Fortunately, it is the head of Santa. On behalf of Chinese, I say sorry to Santa Claus.

Due to the time zone difference, we in China would celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas earlier than you in America.

Here, wish all of us, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Today in China, Nov. 2nd

#1. Two trucks loaded with explosives exploded

On Nov. 1st, a destructive explosion happened in Guizhou province, China. It was reported that two trucks were transporting explosives from Hunan province and the explosion happened when passing a car repair workshop. 8 people were killed and more than one hundred people were injured. The explosives on two trucks weighed about 70 tons.

#2. Difference between Chinese army and American army

This picture now is popular among Chinese netizens. In army, Chinese soldiers are ordered to fold up their futons just like squares of tofu. However, many netizens don’t think it is a good thing and say that our army is practicing folding up futons while American soldiers become stronger and stronger on the battlefield.

#3. No ‘tweets’ while cleaning

He is an ordinary street cleaner and became famous when he tried to post on his micro blog about the dirty, disorderly and bad phenomenon on streets. However, he was not allowed to update his micro blog by his leader, who said that updating micro blog would influence his work. In addition, he would be fined 5 RMB if being caught updating his blog one time. The fact is that he only earns a wage about 755 RMB (amounting to 110 US dollars) a month.

#4. Political cartoon

Ai Weiwei was fined 15 million RMB by the government for tax evasion.

Ai Weiwei (born 18 May 1957) is a Chinese contemporary artist, active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film, and social, political and cultural criticism.

#5. Pic on life

What would you say from this pic?

Today in China, Oct. 31th

#0. To start with youth

Youth is useless when we own it. Only after we waste the youth and begin to cherish the memory of youth, it becomes priceless.

#1. “I love my country.”

Since childhood, people in China are educated to become patriots. Almost each child in school has written the compositions on the topic of “why I love my country”. The following is one diary by a schoolboy:

Dad and mom,
After school, my homework is to write a composition on the topic “I love my country”. Because you are working in the city, you may not know that our house has been torn down forcibly. However, I would be nice and don’t worry about me. In addition, I would finish my homework on time. Now, I am writing the composition on the ruins of our house.

PS: Land is not privately-owned in China but belongs to country. Chinese citizens only have the right of using the land. With the rapidly development of real estate industry and urbanization, many people’s houses have been torn down forcibly. Even worse, people can only own the house as a commodity for 70 years. It is still uncertain until now what would happen after 70 years. The point is that the land belongs to country and it can be taken back at any time.

#2. Air quality in Beijing

Recently, air quality in Beijing gets many people’s attention. One netizen wrote on his micro blog that he even could feel the toxic gas in the air. Ironically, the weather report said that the air in Beijing was good.

#3. Policemen tried to cover the truth of the car accident

In the afternoon of Oct. 29th, a police car killed 5 persons plus 2 persons injured. Accident happens each day. However, in this accident, the policeman (also the driver) violated the law and drove the police car drunk. Even worse, after the accident, police department tried to cover the truth, which led to the conflict. Angry people upset the police cars.

#4. Fun pic

Have you ever seen the Mermaid like ‘him’? Thailand people are very optimistic even in the flood.

At last, wish all of you a Happy Halloween.

Today in China, Oct. 29th

#1. A quick-witted driver cheated the death in the accident

In Zhejiang province, a car first crashed with a taxi and then a motor-tricycle loaded with steel rods, which punched through the car. However, it is fortunate that the car driver reacted quickly and threw himself out of the car in time.

#2. Spoiled Chinese little emperor

Due to Chinese family planning policy, each family only is allowed to have one baby. Therefore, the only child in the family is often called little emperor. However, many Chinese children are terribly spoiled. Just like the one in the pic. The boy started to pull his mother’s hair just because the mother refused his demand to by a toy. Even more, he got his fingers to his mother’s throat. Finally, the mother had to buy him a toy.

#3. On the way to school

Winter is coming, eighty-year-old girl, wearing an old pair of scandals and carrying her nephew on her back, is on her way to school. However, the little boy’s smile just makes me burst into tears.

#4. Colony events in China

Cars were upset in a recent colony event

In a quickly changing society, with many conflicts and contradictions, colony event happens in China from time and time. People lose their faith and money is the only thing that people care of.

#4. Fun pic

Warm-hearted

In Thainland, the separated lovers meet again when the flood waters subsided.

Today in China, Oct. 28th

#1. Good students were differentiated from others in a middle school

In China, examination result is the main standard to measure a student’s performance. The 24th Baotou Middle School gave the best fifty students (according to the examination scores) the different red school uniforms. However, these uniforms were provided by a real estate company and they were printed with the name of this company, just like a commercial advertisement.

#2. Chinese children football team VS. Russian: 0 to 15

In each Olympic Game, China won a lot of golden medals in many sports items with the exception of football game. Chinese National Football Team is laughed at and made fun of by the whole country. Each Chinese wonders why 11 good football players could not be chosen from 1.3 billion Chinese people. Maybe Chinese football falls behind from the children. A Russian children football team won the match by 15 goals to zero.

#3. In Beijing, Belgium Prince and Princess were visiting the Summer Palace

This news may be not worth reporting. However, I find the scenes in the pics were like that of in gangster movies, especially Chinese gangster movies. It is a fact in China that governors, officials and foreign politicians and celebrities all can enjoy these special treatments.

#4. Fun Pic

Stupidity happens when our mouths and hands act before our brains.
